Penn 835 /805 Downrigger Circuit Board (PCB) NEW Version 3
Penn 835 – 805 Down rigger Circuit Board (PCB) NEW. Version 3 JUST released. Built in is a Hall Sensor Tester circuit. LED’s near the CPU will turn on and off as the magnets trigger the sensors. If LED’s are not flashing there is an issue, and you may need a Hall Sensor Board link below. Since these units are very rare and, IMHO, the best ever built. I have taken the time and effort the design and write code for replacement boards. Pen 805-835 Down Rigger Replacement Board Instructions. Hello and thank you for your support. These instructions define six modes and three features of my Version 3 Pen 805-835 Down Rigger Replacement Board design. 9- 20 VDC at 20 amps. No load: motor up / down 8 amps. Stuck motor 50 amps. (Purpose of 20-amp fuse). Normal use = Default mode, and operates just like the original board. After plugging the unit in, you will hear three beeps. The unit counter is now set to zero with power applied. When the unit turns on/and or the memory is reset, the counter will go to zero. When the spool turns to let line out (Down Switch Active), the counter will count larger positive numbers. The deeper the water, the bigger the numbers will be. Memory= There are 10 memories that can be saved. To set a memory, move the ball to the desired location and press the memory button for longer than 1second. Memory can be erased individually or entirely. When erasing a single memory, move the ball to a previous stored memory spot, and press the button for longer than 1second. You will hear two beeps informing you memory has been erased. Erase All Memory = You can erase all memories and reset counter to zero. Erasing all memories also resets the depth counter to zero. To erase all memories, hold button for longer than 10 seconds. The unit will beep for 10 seconds, informing you that all memories were erased and the counter was reset to zero. = During Normal Mode, the ball will stop at each memory. During Fish on Mode, the ball will rise from any depth without stopping. To use this mode, toggle the up switch three times in less than two seconds. The ball will pass all saved memories and go-to zero on the counter. When returning the ball back to depth, toggle the down switch three times in less than two seconds. The ball will lower to the last depth without stopping at saved memories. Incremental Mode = When the counter is at zero at water level, and you need to lift up the ball a little bit above water level. USE THIS MODE WITH CAUTION. In Normal Mode, the ball will not go above zero(water level). To enter Incremental Mode, hold the toggle switch in the up position for more than three seconds, but never more than 10 seconds. The ball will lift as long as the toggle switch is held. This bypasses any automatic stop. Do not let ball hit the boom, as this could break the cable. To exit this mode, just lower ball into water past zero. Load Mode / Emergency mode. = Do NOT USE THIS MODE UNLESSLOADING LINE OR UNLESS IN EMERGENCY. An emergency could be the counter not working. This mode is a nice feature when loading line or if the counting system fails. When in this mode, the counter is NOT used and the motor will continue up until the toggle switch is pushed down. Use this to load line without having to hold the switch. To enter this mode, hold the toggle switch up for longer than 10 seconds. The motor can be turned up or down in this mode with no counter working. To leave this mode, the power must be cycled. Hall Sensor (magnet sensor). Test built into board. I have added LED’S that tell when magnets mounted in the spool, triggers the CPU. There are two hall sensors, on a little board buried deep inside your unit. Each LED is for each sensor. When LED’S light up, that means the South magnet triggered the sensor. When LED’s off, that means North magnet UN-triggered the sensor. When rotating the spool with power on, Both LED S near the CPU should flash on and off, telling you that sensors are picking up the signal from the magnets. If Both are not flashing when spool is turning and power on, then something is wrong. = None of the boards, original or mine, came with a replaceable fuse. If the motor got stuck to bottom, or hung up in any way, the motor overloaded and burned up the traces on the board. I have measured over 50 amps of current from a stuck motor, and the original 18-amp circuit breaker never popped. To help protect boards and motors a replaceable 20-ampATO or ATC automotive fuse is now built in. All boards are sealed with a water resistant Conformal Acrylic Coating. This coating seals the boards and allows them to operate in -40 F – 300F temps. Very close to waterproof, since waterproof is almost impossible.
